TV rights for 2014 World Cup African qualifiers

Confederation of African Football sells TV rights for 2014 WC qualifiers - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially sold the centralized television and marketing rights for the 2014 World Cup African qualifiers.

CAF President Issa Hayatou signed the contract with B4 Company, which is associated with the French entity Lagardere Sport and its subsidiary, Sportfive.

The contract was concluded during a ceremony held in Cairo on Tuesday, following a resolution adopted unanimously by all CAF members on 31 May.

A CAF statement said the contract rights include the television and media rights, as well as the marketing rights for each of the qualifying matches of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, to be held in Brazil.

It said the host federation and the host broadcaster would be entitled to broadcast each home match live, free to air by terrestrial means only.

According to CAF, the minimum expectation for the above-mentioned contract is US$23 million.

The African qualifiers, which will involved 52 countries, will begin in November 2011 and end in November 2013.
