Lagos, Nigeria - The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has described the death of Super Eagles' defender Adefemi Olubayo as a terrible blow. “This is devastating. I was just leaving the stadium after our U-20 team’s victory over Ghana when the acting NFF General Secretary (Musa Amadu) called me on the telephone. Why? Such a young and dedicated player? Why now? Oh, I can’t say more,” the local media quoted NFF President Aminu Maigari as saying in South Africa, where he is attending the African Youth Championship.
NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire also expressed sadness at the death of the 25-year-old, in a car accident in Greece where he was playing for Skoda Xanthi FC.
The defender reportedly lost control of his car early Monday Monday near Kavala, northeast Greece, as he was running around for his impending wedding.
