Lagos, Nigeria - South African boxer Evans Mbamba Saturday night lost the chance to win the International Boxing Organization (IBO) bantamweight title, when he lost to champion Vic Darchinya in Yerevan, Armenia, according to boxing website fightnews.com.
Fighting in his home country for the first time, Darchinyan beat the South African in a one-sided fight to retain his IBO title.
The 35-year-old Darchinyan, but who has fought mostly out of Australia, was making his fourth title defence.
He improved his record to 37 wins, three losses and one draw, with 27 knockouts.
On his part, the record of 29-year-old Mbamba dropped to 18 victories, two loses and nine draws.
