Presidential polls in Cameroon - Forty candidates, including three women, have filed papers to run for the presidential election in Cameroon, PANA reported here, quoting official sources.
The sources said the 40 candidates submitted their application forms to the Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), the body charged with organizing the 9 October polls,
Those who submitted application papers included incumbent President Paul Biya, candidate of the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM), and the major opposition party, Social Democratic Front (SDF) chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi.
Other major candidates are Adamou Ndam Njoya of the Cameroon Democratic Union (UDC), Garga Haman Adji of the Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD), Augustin Frederic Kodock of the Union of populations of Cameroon (UPC), Bernard Acho Muna of the Alliance of progressive forces (AFP) and Anicet Ekane, the African Movement for new Independence and Democracy (MANIDEM).
ELECAM will publish the final list of candidates after screening their papers.
