UN chief calls for more ratifications for nuclear test ban treaty - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has urged eight key countries that have not yet ratified the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) to do so, in order to accelerate its entry into force.
The UN, in a brief statement on Monday, listed the eight countries yet to ratify the treaty as China, North Korea, Egypt, India, Iran, Israel, Pakistan, and the US.
According to the statement, Ban made the call when he met Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa in New York.
'During their meeting, the Secretary-General stressed the importance of Indonesia’s ratification of the CTBT, given that the country is one of the so-called Annex 2 States, whose endorsement is required for the treaty to enter into force,' it said.
