Nigeria's military impounds explosives-laden truck

Lagos, Nigeria - The Nigerian military has impounded a truck loaded with bomb-making devices in Jos, where ethno-religious crisis has left hundreds dead in recent years. Capt. Charles Ekeocha, spokesman for the joint Special Task Force (STF) charged with maintaining peace in Plateau, of which Jos is capital, told journalists Friday that the truck was impounded in Mista Ali, a settlement along Jos-Zaria road. The driver of the truck, Abubakar Usman, and the police officer who accompanied him, Kingsley Charles, were arrested and detained, Capt. Ekeocha said.

Among the devices in the truck were a 15,000 kg Ammonium Nitrate; 50,000 kg of codex fuse, 5,000 pieces of electric detonators, 1,000 pieces of cord relays, 80 pieces of softer electric detonators, 775 kg of super power, five pieces of drilling rods and five pieces of same drilling rod.

'Normally, when such things are being moved, security operatives are usually informed, but that was not done in this particular case,' Ekeocha said.
