Security-Nigeria - Nigeria's President Goodluck jonathan said Saturday that the federal government would immortalise members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who lost their lives in Friday's bomb attack on an electoral office in Suleja, northern Niger State. Speaking after casting his vote in his hometown of Otuoke, in southern oil-rich Bayelsa state, Jonathan said 'It is unfortunate about the incidence we had in Suleja but that is an isolated case. Government will see what we can do to the bereaved families. 'They (corpers) died as martyrs serving their fatherland and we will so recognise them,' he said of the NYSC members, who were to have served as ad-hoc staffers in the parliamentary poll.
The President said the election so far was smooth and peaceful, except for isolated cases of skirmishes and the problem of rains in some areas.
'For me, what I have observed is that the accreditation and the voting process is smooth, peaceful and encouraging. Nigerians must vote because the ballot will be peaceful and we are insisting that their votes must count,' he said.
