Security-Nigeria - Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday night shot and killed two policemen in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. The state's Police Commissioner, Mohammed Jinjiri Abubakar, who confirmed the attack said Inspector Santal Ali, 43, was in the midst of his friends at his Pompomari residence when the gunmen arrived in an unmarked Golf Volkswagen car around 7.15pm and killed him.

"The police officer was shot in the chest and thigh. He however killed one of his attackers before he died. The police are vulnerable because most of them are living in rented quarters, in the midst of the people," he said. The family of the deceased said late Santal left behind three wives and nine children.

The other policeman was shot and killed at Ngomari, along airport road around 8pm on the same day, according to police authorities.
