Nigeria: Match bonus for Nigeria's Super Eagles 'slashed'

Lagos, Nigeria - Match bonus for Nigeria's Super Eagles 'slashed'. Still smarting from Nigeria's failure to qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup finals, the country's football federation has decided to slash the match bonus payable to the players in future matches. According to local media reports Wednesday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will also introduce a Code of Conduct for the country's top stars featuring in the national team.

Currently, a win fetches each Super Eagles' player US$10,000 while a draw attracts US$5,000 each. The new rates have yet to be disclosed.

Last week, the NFF fired coach Samson Siasia after he failed to take the team to next year's Nations Cup, to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Many have blamed the failure on Siasia's high handedness, which led to clashes with some of the Eagles' stars.

A replacement is yet to be named for Siasia.
