Lagos, Nigeria - Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan plans to hold a meeting with the leaders of all major political parties on the state of the nation this week, the local media reported Sunday, quoting presidency sources.
The report said the agenda of the meeting would include national security, withdrawal of fuel subsidy, the Sovereign Wealth Fund as well as other economic issues.
The sources said the president believes that there is a need to forge a consensus through consultations on burning national issues.
The issues listed have generated a lot of concerns and controversy.
A wave of bombings by Islamic sect Boko Haram has triggered a security alert in Africa's most populous nation, while the government's plan to remove fuel subsidy have elicited threats of a nationwide shutdown through strikes by labour unions.
