Nigeria-Health: Gombe Embraces Roll Back Malaria Programme

Health-Malaria Programme-Nigeria - The Regional Manager II of Society for Family Health, Mrs. Afiya Gofwan, says 160 private hospitals, pharmaceutical and patent medicine stores in Gombe State have joined the Roll-Back malaria program by selling anti-malaria drugs at subsidized rates. Gofwan who spoke to journalists yesterday in Gombe, noted that the sale of subsidized anti-malaria drugs began in the state in August last year.

According to her, the idea behind the sale of the subsidized drugs is ensure a malaria free society which would make it possible for all patients to access the drugs with ease. The National Coordinator, National Malaria Control Programme, Dr. David Durojaye said the Federal Government would soon take delivery of 85 million doses of anti malaria drugs for free distribution in public health facilities across the country. He said the drugs would be supplied under an agreement between the federal government and the Global Fund Round Eight Affordable Medicine Facility Malaria (AMFM) grant.
