The officials said a ministerial delegation had been dispatched to Angola and Namibia, two big diamond producers in Africa, to study how they mined, stored and marketed the gems.
An international diamond trade watchdog, the Kimberley Process, has threatened to ban Zimbabwe from trading in diamonds after finding widespread leakage of gems from the country.
A fact-finding team early this year from the Kimberley Process found leakages particularly rife at a government-controlled diamond mine in the east of the country, and told the authorities to close the loopholes or face a trade ban.
The government has since sought private investors to take over the leaky mine, as part of a massive privatisation process.
"We want to see how they do it in their countries," Mines Minister Obert Mpofu said, referring to the ministerial delegation sent to Angola and Namibia.
Zimbabwe has in recent years discovered huge diamond fields, but exploitation of the resource has been crowded in controversy.
