Senegal-Morocco CAF U-23 Championship

Football - Senegal, Morocco reach semi. Senegal beat host Morocco 1-0 in their final group A match in Tangiers on Friday, but both teams advanced to the semi-final of the inaugural CAF Under-23 Championship. The goal was scored in the 31st minute by Oumar Wade.

Both Senegal and Morocco finished with six points apiece, meaning that Algeria and Nigeria were eliminated, despite Nigeria's face-saving 4-1 victory over the north Africans in their final group game in Marrakech.

However, Senegal tops the group and will stay in Tangiers for the semi-final, while Morocco now travels to Marrakech for its next game.

The other semi-finalists will be determined on Saturday when Egypt takes on South Africa and Gabon plays Cote d'Ivoire in the final group B ties.

The championship doubles as the African qualifier for the men's football event of next year's London Olympics, with the top three teams picking the tickets to represent Africa at the Games.

The fourth-placed team will engage a team from Asia in a play-off for another possible slot at the Olympics.
