South Africa: Bafana Bafana gets new coach

Brazilian Carlos Alberto Parreira has been appointed the new coach of the South African national football team, Bafana Bafana, replacing Joel Santana who was sacked on Monday, football sources said here Friday

Details are still sketchy, but the South African media said the coach had already arrived in the country, which will host the 2010 World Cup.

But indications are that the appointment may be announced later Friday.

On Monday, the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) said its Management Committee had ''unanimously agreed'' with Mr Santana for the coach to vacate his position as Bafana Bafana's coach.

SAFA also announced that in the interim, Mr. Jairo Leal and Mr. Pitso Mosimane would assume the role of Caretaker Coaches, ''pending a decision by the National Executive at its meeting to be held on Friday 23 October 2009''.

Santana was fired after a string of poor results with the team.
