The Senegalese, who won the trophy for the fifth time, won 3 games and drew 5.
Cameroonian grandmaster Jean Marc Ndjofang was second also with 11 points but he lost one match, while another Senegalese grand master Ndiaga Samb, was third with 10 points.
The championship featured 14 players from 12 countries; Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, The Gambia and Uganda.
The nine African players that qualified for the world championship in Brazil are: Macodou Ndiaye (Senegal), Jean Marc Ndjofang (Cameroon), Ndiaga Samb (Senegal), Moussa Camara (Guinea), Leopold Kouogueu (Cameroon), Sheikh Njie (Gambia), Adama Kone (Burkina Faso), Sadabou Dramme (Mali) and Suleymane Dieng (Mauritania).
Gambia's Minister of Youth and Sports, Sheriff Gomez, said the Gambian leader Yahya Jammeh had declared that the country would be in a position to host the 2013 World Draughts Championship.
Gomez also announced that the 2010 African Draughts Championship will be held in Burkina Faso and the 2011 World Draughts Championship will be in Holland.
