Saint-Louis international jazz festival planned for May in Senegal

Dakar, Senegal - The 17th edition of the International Jazz Festival of Saint-Louis (Saint-Louis Jazz) has been scheduled for 28-31 May in the northern Senegalese city of Saint-Louis, PANA learnt Saturday from the organizers.

Saint-Louis Jazz aims to "restore the festival reputation of Senegal and take it to greater heights by involving professionals," said Mr. Fara Tall, vice-president of the Saint-Louis Jazz association, organizers of the event.

As part of the innovations for this year's edition, the association has planned, apart from the regular "off" and "in" scenes, to create an understanding between musicians and the media.

The organizers say they expect performers like Elizabeth Kontomanou, allegedly born to a Guinean father and a Greek mother, and the Italian accordion-player Richard Galliano and French saxophonist Géraldine Laurentto to feature at the festival.
