Rwanda enters for Kenya's Prins-Loo Sevens rugby tourney

Rugby tourney - The Rwandese national rugby team, The Silverbacks, has named a squad of 20 players for the National Prins-Loo Sevens rugby contest that kicks off at Nakuru Athletic Club, Kenya, Thursday.

Rwanda is the second national side to participate in the tournament this year after Uganda did so in 2008.

The squad, made up of young players, comprises team captain Makombe Benjamin, Kamanzi Didier, Twizeyimana J. Leonard, Nkurunziza Sylivain, Ahorukomeye Innocent and Djuma Adams (vice-captain).

Others are Ruzibuka Berte, Gatabazi Juvenal, Nemeye Emanuel, Kamali Vincent, Cyamgara Koko, Mugisha Kenin, Muhire Livingstone (also team manager) and coach Nsenga Gerald.

Tournament organisers on Wednesday announced the pooling of the 24 teams for the event which has been sponsored to the tune of energy drink form Rhino Energy Drink and mineral water group H2O.

In Pool A, Christie Sevens winners Kenya Harlequins are seeded on top against US International University (USIU), Eldoret Flames and Homeboyz.

Hosts and national sevens circuit leaders, Nakuru RFC, are in Pool A together with Nondies, Kenya College of Accountancy and Kenyatta University's Blak Blad.

Nakuru RFC are leading the national sevens circuit series with 50 points, followed by Kenya Harlequins with 49 points.

Kenya Commercial Bank, who lost in the semi-finals of the Christies Sevens are grouped together in Pool C against Mombasa Polytechnic, Kabarak and Moi universities.

Strathmore University, Bungoma RFC, Daystar University and Siaya MTC are in Pool D.

Impala RFC, Mean Machine, Rwanda's Silverbacks and Kenya Polytechnic are in Pool E.

National Sevens Circuit defending champions Mwamba RFC are the top seeds in Pool F against Masinde Muliro University, Kisumu RFC and Egerton University.
