Jonathan said in the capital city of Abuja Monday that he would, this week, meet with all the relevant agencies involved in organising the tournament, adding: 'If anybody mismanages government funds, definitely the law will catch up with him or her.'
'What we have decided is that at the end of the tournament all the expenditures will be audited and people will know...If there are mismanagement of funds fine, they will account for it. If anybody mismanages government funds, de finitely the law will catch up with him or her. We are going to do that.
'There were stories of people sharing vehicles. Nobody can take any vehicle be cause the vehicles are bought for the tournament. And at the end of the tournament, these vehicles will be sold at reduced prices,'' he said.
While the 25 Oct.-15 Nov. tournament was still on, the local media quoted Sports Minister Sani Ndanusa as saying no more funds should be released to the various committees and sub-committees of the LOC until they have accounted for the money they collected earlier.
Some 12 billion naira was said to have been released to the various committees and sub-committees (US$1=150 Naira).
Nigeria lost the tournament 1-0 to Switzerland on Sunday, missing a chance to become the first nation to win it four times.
