Also, the rampaging ex-militants have been decamped and sent home to prevent a recurrence.
Rivers state police commissioner Bala Hassan said the 11 ex-militants were arres ted for their role in the massive looting and destruction of valuables at the University of Port Harcourt, located in the state capital, during the Monday demonstration.
In addition to looting and destroying properties, the former militants also bloc ked the East-West Road that links the oil producing Niger Dlta region with the rest of the country.
The riot has led the authorities to send home all the 2000 militants in the Aluu camp, located about 10 kilometres from Port Harcourt, after they were paid their 65,000 naira stipend each on Tuesday (US$1=150 Naira).
Since the government's amnesty programme for oil militants rounded off last month, a number of repentant militants have staged intermittent demonstrations to press the authorities to pay their allowances.
Some 15,000 former militants embraced the amnesty programme, widely regarded as a success by the government.
