Museveni reassures Kadhafi over Uganda crisis

Tripoli, Libya - Libyan revolutionary leader, Mouammar Kadhafi, on Sunday had a telephone conversation with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, to be briefed about the situation in the East African nation where days of clashes between the security forces and members of the Buganda ethnic group have claimed several lives and led to destruction of property, a Libyan official source said on Monday.

During their conversation, President Museveni reassured Kadhafi, who is also the current chairman of the African Union (AU), that the situation was stable, calm and under control, adding that there was no cause for concern.

According to the source, the Ugandan president thanked the Libyan leader for his interest in Uganda.

Riots broke out last week in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, between security forces and members of the Buganda ethnic group which have claimed at least 14 lives and led to the destruction of property.

President Museveni and King Ronald Motibi II, the leader of the Buganda ethnic group, have agreed to hold a meeting to find solutions to the causes of the clashes.
