Nigeria: Kerosene scarcity to end, as ships carrying product, others head to Nigeria

Kerosene scarcity-Nigeria - The acute scarcity of kerosene, used for cooking by most Nigerians, may end soon as ships carrying the product are among the 79 due to berth at Lagos ports between now and 15 July. The local media reported the planned arrival of the ships Monday, quoting shipping position from the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA). “Nine of the ships are carrying petrol, four laden with bulk wheat while five others are carrying bulk cement,” the report said. 'Six are laden with vehicles, three are carrying kerosene, while 29 others are laden with general cargoes, steel, fish and aviation fuel,' it added.

The report also indicated that 33 tankers carrying petrol, aviation fuel, Kerosene, ethanol, diesel and base oil are already waiting to discharge their products.

But the report was silent on which parts of the world these items are coming from.

The scarcity of kerosene has forced many Nigerians to resort to using firewood and charcoal for cooking, despite the implications for the environment.
