50 exhibitors feature at int'l book fair in Dakar - Some 50 exhibitors from 10 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa are taking part in the 13th edition of the International Book and educational materials Fair (FILDAK) which started Saturday in Dakar, the Senegalese capital, under the theme: 'the cultural industries as drivers of development: Place and prospects for the book'.
The number of participants in this year's edition, which runs until 22 December, rose by 13 exhibitors when compared to the 12th edition which featured 37 exhibitors from seven countries took part.
Exhibitors from Canada, India and Tunisia are making their debut this year.
In addition to the book stands, organizers opened sections for tales and reading for children.
The official opening ceremony, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed until Monday afternoon.
FILDAK aims to publicise the intellectual works from the participating countries, encourage and strengthen activities related to the creation, production and distribution as well as dissemination of books, particularly through exhibitions, educational materials and professional meetings.
