Mauritius Muslims condemn Israel's attacks on Gaza

Port-Louis, Mauritius - The Muslim Citizen Council (MCC) in Mauritius has condemned Israel's military campaign in the blockaded Gaza Strip, PANA reported Tuesday.

MCC said in a statement that they were appalled by the excessive and indiscriminate use of state sanctioned terror.

''Israel's decision to commence its attack in the early afternoon of 27th December as children were leaving their schools caused elevated innocent casualties with some 300 civilians being killed so far. By any measure of respect for innocent human life, this is unacceptable,'' the council said.

''It should be made clear that the only future offered to the Palestinian people has so far been one of perpetual subjugation and humiliation at the hands of the Israeli occupiers. Unfortunately, the international timid response to this tragic episode will only serve to fuel more violence and sentiments of fury and anger in the Muslim world,'' it declared.

The MCC called on world leaders to take direct action to end Israel¹s counterproductive and disproportionate attacks and to end the humanitarian siege of Gaza, which led to the recent breakdown of the ceasefire.

The MCC also called on the government of Mauritius to take a firm stand against Israel.

Israel's aerial bombings of Gaza, which started Saturday, has attracted widespread condemnations around the world.

Israel justifies the attacks by saying they were meant to stop the firing of rockets into the southern part of the country, which puts the lives of a quarter million citizens in danger.
