Nigeria-Security: Police Trail Two Politicians for Arms, Violence

Security-Nigeria - Detectives from Osun State Police Command are on the trail of two prominent politicians on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly sponsoring violence and stockpiling arms ahead of tomorrow's rescheduled National Assembly election. One of the politicians is a current member of House of Representatives (PDP) and the second is a member of the Osun State House of Assembly. While the member of the state House of Assembly was being wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms leading to the discovery of 19 brand new automatic pump action double barrel guns, 14 cartridges, three expended 7.62mm ammunitions two expended cartridges and one cutlass in one of his houses located at Ajido Street, Osun in Atakunmosa West local council.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led the raid that led to the discovery of the items in the man's house.

The House of Representatives member was allegedly wanted for sponsoring violence in the state, leading to the arrest of eight young men in Ila Orangun on April 1. They were armed with two cut-to-size single barrel guns, two cut-to-size double barrel guns, one locally made pistol, one pump action riffle, two live ammunitions of FNC riffle, four live cartridges and other injurious items.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Peter Gana, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Osogbo, said that one of the politicians has been arrested and is being interrogated by detectives from the command on the matter. Gana, who had earlier read riot act to the politicians in the state to shun violence at a parley he held with party leaders and candidates contesting the National Assembly election, said that the police were determined to improve on their strength and capability as experienced in the botched Saturday election warned that nobody irrespective of class would be allowed to carry arms on leection day.
