Mauritania to raises money to curb inflation

Nouakchott, Mauritania - Mauritania raised 15 billions ouguiya (US$ 60 mi llions) to start an emergency programme aimed at alleviating the impact of rising prices, Mauritanian Minister of Public Service Abdel Aziz Ould Dahi said here S u nday.

Speaking during a press conference, he said the money was available "by virtue of a decree establishing advance credit in order to guarantee an immediate start" of the emergency programme announced Saturday by President Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallahi.

This programme was composed of several measures, including the subsidy of some b asic products and cattle food, tax abolition, establishment of food grain bank in all regions and a ten per cent rise in salary from July.

Mauritania might face food insecurity because of the conjunction of several fact ors of the rise in oil prices.
