Mali to build new industrial zone

Mali's President Amadou Toumani Toure Thursday launched the construction work for a new industrial zone at Dialakorobougou, located 10 kilometres from the capital city of Bamako.

At the occasion, President Toure reaffirmed his government's willingness to strengthen the country's industrial base.

``I think that we have to do our best to put at the disposal of national and international investors all the conditions necessary for the development of our country's industrial sector,” the President said.

The zone, with the capacity for more than 300 industrial units, will be built on a land area of 200 hectares, and be equipped with modern facilities, including a modern water supply system and seve ral access roads.

The project, due to be completed in 2012, will cost the Malian government and its partners 10 billion CFA francs.

It is also expected to create about 20,600 jobs, according to the Ministry of Industry, Investments and Trade.
