Libya: Tripoli warns against deployment of Western military advisers in Libya

Tripoli, Libya - Libya on Thursday warned the international community against the deployment of Italian, British and French military advisers to the rebel National Transition Council in Benghazi. In a statement issued on Thursday by the Libyan general people’s committee for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation, Libya also denounced the actions taken by the European Union (EU) aimed at implementing a plan for the deployment of the military in the country. In this respect, the statement condemned the pressures by the representative of the EU foreign policy, Catherine Ashton, to obtain the approval of the United Nations on the deployment of that military mission to Libya. The Libyan foreign affairs ministry has denounced those acts, pointing out that they was interference in the Libyan State’s internal affairs and a violation of UN Security Council resolution 1973. just as it is about a violation of Libya’s sovereignty and territorial unity.

The statement said those EU actions taken to deploy military operation in Libya were serious acts that fueled the present conflict in Libya.

The Libyan foreign affairs ministry in the statement, stressed that there existed no resolution other than dialogue to solve the crisis between Libyans, saying they agreed that those talks were held under the aegis of the United Nations and the African Union (AU).

The statement reaffirmed the condemnation by Libya of the EU's intentions to deploy military forces that include 1,000 soldiers to ensure the carrying out of humanitarian aid to civilians in Libya.

The Foreign Affairs ministry, which warned the international community against the consequences of that operation on the conflict inside Libya, said that was the beginning of ground military intervention to be carried out by the Western coalition in the country, which contradicted the resolution of the UN Security Council.
