Libya detects first swine flu case

The Secretary of the Libyan General People's Committee for Health and Environment, Mohamed Hijazi, announced Sunday the discovery of the first case of swine flu infection with virus on a Thai from Dubai.

Hijazi said the Thai, a 52-year old man who works for a company operating in Libya, arrived Saturday evening in Tripoli from Dubai, after spending holidays in his country.

The Secretary of Health and Environment on the sidelines of the meeting of the National High Commission to control swine flu and endemic diseases that the results of analyses showed the Thai, who had a temperature of 38.5 degrees, was suffering from swine flu.

According to him, the patient's condition was improving steadily after he was given necessary care at the hospital, noting that his temperature dropped to 37 degrees.

The Libyan official said his ministry and the relevant health departments were continuing the implementation of preventive measures at the airports, ports, land and sea borders of Libya.

The High Commission to Control Swine Flu and Endemic Diseases held in Tripoli Sunday a meeting on the monitoring of preventive measures taken by Libya to fight a gainst this disease, after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared swine flu a worldwide pandemic.
