Mr Al-Azhari told journalists at the Tripoli-based CEN-SAD headquarters at the end of a meeting with the ambassador of Mauritania in Libya, Mohamed Lemine Ould Khattry, that the coming days would witness the launch of an intense campaign to eradicate this scourge which consti tutes a danger, not only for Libya or Mauritania, but for the entire Sahelo-Saharan region.
He also said arrangements had been made to accelerate the fight against locusts which are in full breeding season.
The CEN-SAD Secretary General said wide-ranging contacts were established over the past few days with the relevant Mauritanian ministerial departments through the fight against the locust plague and the Libyan national fight against locusts a nd agricultural scourges.
These contacts were based on the preparations of the case relative to the beginning of the reproduction of locusts and their presence on some zones in Mauritania, namely in the country's northern and eastern parts.
