The purge on the Police force also saw President Mwai Kibaki name Mr Simeon Karanja Gatiba as the Director of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and Mr Peter Eregai as his deputy.
Maj.-Gen. Ali, who was plucked from the Kenya Army in 2004 and planted at the helm of the Kenyan Police force to spearhead reforms, immediately gave the force a new style of operation and succeeded in checking in security.
But his image deteriorated after the mass killings of December 2007 to March 2008.
The Kenyan Police chief has been under immense international pressure to give way after a UN Human Rights official, Phillip Alson, accused him of spearheading human rights abuses in parts of Western Kenya during an oper ation to flush out members of a rag-tag militia that was terrorising the Mount Elgon region, near Kenya's border with Uganda.
Meanwhile, President Kibaki has given Ali a new assignment, as the new Chief Executive Office of the Postal Corporation of Kenya.
President Kibaki also named Aliâ?s former deputy, Mr Lawrence Mwandime, the new Senior Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Livestock Development. The changes take effect immediately, according to a statement from President press office.
In other changes within the police force, President Kibaki appointed the following: Mr Francis Omondi Okonya as Senior Deputy Commissioner of Police I, Mr Julius Ndegwa, Senior Deputy Commissioner of Police II in charge of Operations and Mr Jonathan Kipkurui Koskei, Senior Deputy Commissioner of Police II in charge of Reforms.
Other appointees are: Mr Bakari Omar Jambeni, Senior Deputy Commissioner of Police II in charge of Logistics, Mr Peter Kilonzo Kavila, Senior Deputy Commissioner II and Commandant Kiganjo Police Training College
