The duo, regular national team call ups, play for Angola’s Petro Atletico and French side Auxerre respectively.
They were among the 40 players called up by Football Kenya Limited (FKL) Technical Director, Patrick Naggi, late Wednesday to start preparations for the second and last phase of the qualifiers.
Naggi said the technical wing had called up the big number of players so as to give Kenya’s new national coach, Antoine Hey, a relatively big pool to pick from.
Hey, a German who was handling the Liberian team, takes charge of the Kenyan tea mon 1 March.
He signed a two-year contract with FKL mid-March and is currently winding up in Liberia.
Hey, who has been given the leeway to pick his assistants, replaces Francis Kimanzi who was fired by FKL in January over what it termed as gross indiscipline.
Other bigwigs named in the provisional squad that begins training in Nairobi on Tuesday are attacking midfielder MacDonald Mariga who plays for Italy’s Parma and Patrick Oboya, based in the Czech Republic.
Kenya, fighting for slots in the Nations Cup finals and World Cup, falls in Group Two of the qualifiers, where Nigeria, Tunisia and Mozambique are also playing.
Hey’s most immediate task is to ensure that Kenya beats Tunisia in the qualifier first-leg match here on 28 March.
The 2010 African Cup of Nations finals in Angola will feature 16 teams, while the World Cup in South Africa will feature 32 teams with five coming from Africa.
Kenya faces a daunting task in the qualifier given the fact that both Tunisia and Nigeria are former Nations Cup champions. Nigeria have also won the Olympic soccer title.
