Italian proposes increase in Africa seed production

Libyan revolutionary leader Mouammar Kadhafi, the AU current chairman, on Sunday received in Rome the Italian writer and thinker, Mario Cabana, who is also the president of the Association of genetic rights in Italy.

According to the Libyan News Agency (JANA), Mr Cabana made a presentation during the meeting on his project on scientific and genetic researches to fight the spread of genetically-modified seeds in Africa.

The Italian writer proposed the establishment of bilateral cooperation between Italy and Libya in the field of scientific research and studies for the increased production of local natural seeds and their improved resistance to diseases and drought.

JANA said the Libyan leader Kadhafi also received on Sunday night the secretary general of the Arab League, Amr Moussa.

The meeting, which was also attended by the Secretary of the Libyan general people's committee for external relations and international cooperation, Moussa Koussa, reviewed the provisions and preparations under way for the holding of the next Arab summit scheduled to take place in Libya in March 2010.

Libyan revolutionary leader arrived in Rome on Sunday afternoon to take part in the conference on global food security which started on Monday at the headquarters of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
