Guinean soccer team manager banned for corruption

Football scores - The former Guinean national soccer team manager, Mamadi Souare "Passarella", has had his name struck off the register of local team managers in Guinea, for being corrupt, the general secretary of the country's football federation, Fode "Capi" Camara, told PANA Thursday.

According to him, Mamadi attempted to corrupt the Ivorian soccer federation to obtain a draw in the encounter against Cote d'Ivoire to enable the Guinean national team qualify for the African Cup of Nations finals slated for Angola next January.

Guinea was eventually thrashed 3-0 last Sunday in Abidjan and this paved the way for Malawi to qualify despite of losing to Burkina Faso.

After the match, the Guinean national soccer team was disbanded and the technical staff sacked.
