Football-CAF U-23 Championship: Nigeria claims Morocco frustration

Lagos, Nigeria - Ahead of Saturday's kick-off of the inaugural CAF Under-23 championship, the Nigerian delegation has said the training of the country's team is being frustrated by Moroccan officials.
Nigeria and Morocco are due to clash in Tangiers on Saturday in their opening group A match at the competition, to be used to select Africa's representatives to the 2012 London Olympics.

The local Punch newspaper reported Wednesday that Nigeria Under-23 coach Austin Eguavoen was angry with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation for allegedly stopping the Nigerian team's training at the Raja Casablanca Sports Complex on Tuesday morning.

The report claimed that the Nigerian team was walked out of the training facility of the Moroccan club side by officials, who claimed they were working on directives from the football federation.

'What can we do? There is nothing we can do about it. The Moroccans are not friendly. The Nigeria Football Federation had an agreement with them that everything was going to be available.

'But getting here, there is nothing available. We can’t get a pitch to train, its synthetic and that’s counterproductive. And to my greatest surprise, its cold, windy and rainy here (Morocco) and we are training with t-shirts; that’s very dangerous,' the paper quoted Eguavoen as saying.

Other teams in Nigeria's group are Algeria and Senegal, while group B comprises Egypt, Gabon, South Africa and Cote d'Ivoire.
