Politics-Nigeria - An elder statesman, educationist and former Minister of Petroleum, Alhaji Shettima Ali Monguno, has cautioned Nigerians to shun politics of ethnicity. Alhaji Monguno stated this yesterday at his Maiduguri residence while reacting to television broadcast made by a socio-cultural group, Ndigbo, calling on their members to vote President Goodluck Jonathan during the forthcoming presidential election. He described the call by Ndigbo that their tribesmen should vote for President Jonathan as ill-timed and capable of undermining the unity of the country, and said, 'The call was anti-peace, anti-progress and anti-security.'

According to him, if other tribal groups in the country called their people to vote for a particular candidate, it would not augur well for the unity of the country. He stated that the founding fathers of the great country fought hard for the unity of such a big country; as such, citizens across should always do things that tend to unite the country.

Alhaji Monguno called on Nigerians to commend INEC for the successful completion of the National Assembly elections and urged the commission to maintain the tempo.
