FIFA U-17 World Cup: Swiss coach savours first World Cup title

Football - Switzerland coach Danny Ryser has described the final of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup won by his side, which beat Nigeria 1-0 here Sunday, as 'tough, hot and difficult', but still worth all the efforts put in to win.

'I am very happy today that we won this Cup. The final I will confess was very tough, hot and difficult but team work gave us victory in today's (Sunday's) match,'' he told journalists after the match.

It was the first time the Swiss will be featuring at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, compared with Nigeria which has won the tournament three times and was seeking an unprecedented fourth title.

Coach Ryser acknowledged that fact, but noted that hard work gave his lowly-rated victory against the highly-regarded Nigerians.

''This is our first World Cup participation and the boys have worked very hard and I am happy that team work, beside any other thing, gave us victory in today's (Sunday's) match which fetched us our first World Cup.

Speaking on how his side was able to unlock the Nigerian team and score the only goal, the coach said: 'We have watched the Nigerians play and we have analyzed their strength. We know that their main asset is their spee d and that they also have good defenders.

'So I told my players in the first half that the Nigerian team won't be able to maintain their speed to the end of the match. I told my boys that if we defend very well, we will have the chance to unlock them and win the game which eventually happened. The Nigerian team are a very good side and they gave us a good and tough match.'
