FIFA U-17 World Cup: Nigeria's coach sees tough final against Switzerland

Football - The First Assistant Coach of Nigeria's Golden Eaglets, Monday Odigie has predicted a very tough match for his team when they confront Switzerland at the finals of the FIFA U-17 World Cup that would be decided at the Abuja National Stadium on Sunday.

The Bayelsa United FC Chief Coach said the Swiss has shown to be a very formidable side and it was no joke for them to sail through to the finals of the competition, having sent packing quality and world powers in football, which included Brazil and Germany.

'It will be foolhardy to treat Switzerland with kids' gloves, having gone so far in the competition and now playing against us in the finals of the World Cup.

"The fact that they ousted strong teams like Italy and Germany in this competition is no mere fluke. So we need to be wary of them and work hard in the match to achieve our ultimate ambition which is winning the trophy to retain it in Nigeria.

'Playing against Switzerland would be very tough and tactical too. This we have already told the boys and we have mapped out our strategies to stop them technically and tactically.

'We are aware of their dangerous players but we won't concentrate on them alone. We will play like a team and the boys have been told as usual to always work for each other and to cover individual lapses discovered in the course of the game.

'This is not a game where a player plays to the gallery in order to attract scouts or thrill the fans because what the fans want at this moment is the trophy and nothing more. So the chief coach has told the boys to work for each other in the match against the Swiss relentlessly and tirelessly too.

'The team, like I said before, was improving per game and I believe we are playing at our peak now and we should, by the special grace of God, beat Switzerland on Sunday to retain the Trophy our predecessors won in 2007 in South Korea,' Odigie, who was voted the best (Nigeria) Premier League Coach for last season, disclosed to PANA.
