The fans were particularly incensed at Saturday's 2-2 draw against Colombia that was the final nail in the coffin of the African champions.
Angry Gambians youths took to the streets, after the final whistle went, insulting the players, coaches and officials of the Gambia Football Association, who they blamed for unfair selection of players.
Alieu Gassama, one of the angry fans, told PANA that the Football Association was the cause of the team's early exit because it was built on 'whom know you' basis.
He also said the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) forced the officials to drop 11 over-aged prayers that won the African Youth Championship in Algeria.
Another fan, Kebba Gaye, blamed President Yahya Jammeh for failing to transport supporters to Nigeria to cheer the team, saying football is about support without which some players lose concentration.
The African champions squandered a 2-0 lead secured in the first half against Colombia in their Group C match in Calabar to draw 2-2 and bow out of the tournament.
The Gambians appeared to be cruising to a comfortable victory after Sarjo Samateh put them ahead in the 19th minute and Ebimah Bojang doubled the lead after 42 minutes.
However, disaster struck the young West African side in a nightmarish 11 minutes deep into the game when they conceded two quick goals.
Luck was on the side of Gustavo Cuellar when his shot took a wicked deflection and rolled past goalkeeper Baka Ceesay who was diving the correct way to save the shot.
There was more trouble for Gambia in the 89th minute when Ceesay fouled a Colombian attacker in the penalty box and conceded a penalty kick.
Luck was on the side of Cuellar again when he saw his shot saved by Ceesay, but referee Howard Webb ruled that the Gambian goalkeeper had moved before the kick and ordereds second kick. Cuellar made no mistake on his second attempt to level the scores at 2-2.
In the second match, Iran beat The Netherlands 1-0. Iran and Colombia book automatic places in the next round while the Dutch will have to wait to see whether their three points can take them through.
