Cairo, Egypt - Egypt has announced the uncovering of an Israeli spy ring which it said was caught in the Arab nation a few days ago. The Israeli spy ring, which includes several Israelis and an Egyptian who are already in detention, aims to damage Egypt's national interest, the authorities announced Tuesday. It was the first of such case since the start of the 25th of January revolution that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak and his regime.
The last time an Israeli spy ring was uncovered in Egypt was in December last year, when authorities here accused an Egyptian businessman and two suspected Israeli secret service agents of attempting to penetrate the Egyptian communications system and of spying on the Egyptian embassy in China.
The Egyptian authorities said Investigations into the latest case are ongoing.
