Compaoré: Burkina will be at 2014 World Cup

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso - Burkina Faso's President Blaise Compaoré on Wednesday received the FIFA World Cup trophy and forecast that his country would play in the 2014 World Cup tournament.

"We want first to go to Angola (venue of 2010 African Cup of Nations) and then when the group gets stronger, we will make it to the 2014 World Cup tournament," the Burkinabé head of state, a big football fan, declared.

President Compaoré predicted a â?promising' future for Burkinabè football, recalling that the country has already participated in five youth World Cup tournaments and it was ranked among the best African nations.

"In 2001, we won the bronze medal at the Under-17 World Cup, which is an encouraging sign," he said.

Eliminated from the forthcoming World Cup, which will take place in South Africa in 2010, Burkina Faso has nevertheless qualified for the African Cup of Nations slated for next January in Angola.
