Comoros sets up think-tank against maritime piracy

Maritime piracy - Comoros has set up a think-tank to devise a reprisal strategy against maritime piracy, said Lieutenant Colonel Ismael Mogne Daho, Director of the Rescue Operations Centre and Civil Protection, at the end of a meeting of the Ministry of Defence, Customs Services and Multilateral Partners (ROCCP).

The meeting, Daho said, took place a week after maritime pirates made an incursion in the Comorian waters in pursuit of a ship flying Italian flag which managed to escape and found refuge in Northern Great-Comoros.

"We are working to build local capacities with a view of guarding against all eventualities since we are close to the pirates' favorite zone," said the Director of ROCCP.

PANA recalled that an Italian commercial ship, the Jolly Rosso, narrowly escaped from an attack attempt, last Friday, according to Daho, who disclosed that the Comorian authorities were alerted after the ship "had been safely rescued".
