Civil society worried about date for 1st round of Ivorian presidential vote

The Ivorian Civil Society Convention (CSCI) on Thursday expressed doubt that the first round of the presidential election would be held on 29 November because of delays recorded in the publication of the provisional voters' rolls.

In a communiqué issued in Abidjan, CSCI asked the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to allow "the population be involved in the quest for solutions to contentious cases", considering that this was going to alleviate and simplify the work of technical actors and that of the IEC.

According to CSCI, if these contentious cases persist, they could have repercussions on the posting of the provisional voters' rolls, litigation management, the distribution of voters' cards and jeopardise the initial date of the first round of the presidential election.
