CAN 2010: Obafemi Martins back in action for Nigeria

Football - Star forward Obafemi Martins is back in action, after coming in as a substitute during Nigeria's Super Eagles' 1-0 win over South African first division league side Thanda FC in a test match in South Africa over the weekend.

Fears that Martins, who is recovering from a shin injury, may not be ready for the Nations Cup starting in Angola Sunday, were dispelled when he came in for Michael Eneramo in the second half.

Incidentally, Chinedu Obasi, who was dropped from the Eagles' list so that Martins could come on board, scored the only goal of the match, which was played on Sunday evening.

The Nigerian team is in Durban, South Africa, for its final preparations for Angola.

If things work out, the Super Eagles may take on the Chipolopolo of Zambia in another friendly later Tuesday.

Nigeria is grouped alongside defending champion Egypt, Mozambique and Benin in the first round of the 27th Nations Cup, holding 10-31 Jan.
