Benin lifts dissolution of national football team

National football team Benin - The decision of the Beninese Football Federation (FBF) to dissolve the country's football team following its poor performance at the last African Cup of Nations in Angola was lifted at the close of a meeting held by the executive committee on Wednesday in Cotonou.

A statement issued by FBF on Thursday also announced the lifting of sanctions against the players who played in the CAN 2010 last January when the team was eliminated in the first round.

The Federation announced rules to avoid the blunders that nearly compromised the participation of the team in CAN 2010.

It said invitation to all national football teams would henceforth be regulated by a Charter of Good Behaviour to be signed by every player adding that the rules of the Charter were to create perfect working environment within football federation.

In February, the FBF executive committee dissolved the national football team and its technical staff for "blackmail" and "lack of patriotism" by the players and "complicity" and "support" expressed by the technical staff to those acts on the eve of CAN 2010 in Angola.

The federation said these acts, with the support of the technical staff, could have jeopardized the participation of Benin in this continental meeting and exposed the country to "tough sanctions by CAF" had it not been for the personal involvement of the President of the country in the management of the crisis.
