Another oil deposit found in Libya

The Russia oil company, Tafnaft, has discovered a new oil deposit in the basin of Ghadamès, located about 345 km South of Tripoli, the Libyan oil company, NOC said on Saturday.

The oil well, located on the block B1-82/4, gave a debit rate of 829 barrels per day in the first test.

The prospecting and sharing block of oil production is the result of the relationship between NOC and Tafnaft, which prospects up to 10.5 per cent in its exploration, against 89.5 per cent in NOC.

This is the second discovery made by the Russian company on block 82 since its granting, by virtue, of a sharing agreement between the two partners in December 2005.

Libya, which is the third largest oil producer in Africa, with reserves estimated at 41.5 billion barrels, plans to increase its reserves by 6.5 billion barrels in 2010, with an expected production of 2.9 billion barrels per day in 2015.

Libya has reserves estimated at 1,500 billion cubic-metre of natural gas and is the fourth biggest gas producer among African countries.

It hopes to produce 3.2 billion cubic-metre of gas for 2010.
