The African Development Bank (AfDB) has granted Gambia US$ 6.4 million to enable the tiny African counry to finance a new project for livestock and horticulture development, competent sources in Banjul confirmed to PANA Tuesday.

Gambia's Finance Secretary (Minister) Moussa Bala Gaye and Mohammed H’Midouche, the regional representative for the African Development Bank (AfDB), signed an agreement to that effect recently.

The new project which was recently approved by African Development Fund (ADF)’s board of directors is designed to benefit some 3,000 households.

It is expected to increase the volume of marketed horticultural products by 125 per cent as well as increase the number of poultry birds by 1,775 per cent and the number of heads of small ruminants by 952 per cent.
