Accra, Ghana - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced on Monday that it has sacked the Serbian coach of the Black Stars, the senior national football team, Goran Stevanovic.
The announcement follows the public disappointment at the performance of the team at the just-ended African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea where the Black Stars placed fourth.
A terse statement on the website of the GFA said the decision was made after three weeks of 'extensive meetings to ensure that the best decision is taken in the best interest of the nation'.
GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi said: 'We would like to express our gratitude to the general public for their concerns about the national team and their patience so far.'
The coach had one year more to go on his two-year contract.
The statement said assistant coach Kwesi Appiah has been asked to take temporary charge of the team until a substantive coach is named.
