2010 CAN-World Cup: Eagles vow to beat Harambee Stars

Football - 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa - Ahead of Saturday's crucial 2010 World Cup qualifier against and Kenya, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have vowed to beat their hosts to brighten their chances of qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa

The Eagles started training in the capital city of Abuja Tuesday, a day after many of them arrived in the team's camp.

Some of the players told PANA that they were eagerly looking forward to the match and that they hope to secure the necessary victory.

"We are so determined to get the three points, and we feel that we can beat them in Kenya in spite of the high altitude issue," Dele Adeleye said.

Among the players that are already in camp are Marseille of France defender Taiye Taiwo, Locomotive Moscow of Russia player Chidi Ordia, Dynamo Kiev of Ukraine midfielder Yusuf Ayila, Hull City of England defender Seyi Olofijana and Belgium base striker Joseph Akpalla.

Others include Portsmouth of England striker Nwankwo Kanu, Chelsea of England midfielder Mikel Obi, Tunisia-based Mike Eneramo, Holland-based Femi Ajilore, Spain-based Kalu Uche and Osaze Odemwingie, who is based in Russia. The rest are Yobo Joseph, Obinna Nwanneri, Obinna Nsofor, Dele Aiyenugba,Greg Etafia, Apam Oyeakachi, Elderson Echiejile, Vincent Enyeama and Yakubu Aiyegbeni.

The Super Eagles must beat the Harambe Stars of Kenya while hoping that the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia lose or secure a draw in Maputo to secure the qualification from group B for the first World Cup to be hosted on the Africa soil.

The Super Eagles are to be ferried to Nairobi Thursday evening on a charter flight from Abuja.
