18 Malian players selected for Montaigu tournament

Bamako, Mali - Mali’s football authorities on Friday released the names of 18 players who will represent the West African state at the junior Montaigu Football Tournament in France from 8 to 13 April.

Africa will be represented in the eight-nation tournament by Côte d'Ivoire and Mali, which is making its debut in the tournament that which has been running since 1973.

Mali will play in Group A with France, Germany and Austria, while Côte d'Ivoire is in Group B with England, Peru and the United Arab Emirates. Mali will play the opening match against Germany on 8 April.

The final list of 18 was arrived at after a three-month selection phase supported by the Malian Agency for Job Promotion (ANPE).

It is made up of three players from Stade Malien of Bamako, one from AS Real of Bamako, four from Salif Keita Center (CSK), five from Bamako Olympic Club (COB), two from Djoliba AC, two from the Korofina Sportive Association (ASKO) and one from Yelen Centre.

The Malian team will leave for France on 30 March to play several preparation ma tches against clubs of France’s elite football division, such as Lille, Paris-Saint Germain and Bordeaux.
