Praia, Cape Verde - The Cape Verdean government has lost revenue worth nearly 100 million escudos (about 1 million euros) since its Customs officials embarked on strike Wednesday, sources close to the Customs department revealed Monday in Praia, the nation's capital.

According to the Public Administration National Democratic Union (SINDETAP), over 80% of the employees of the department headed the call to go on strike.

To make up for the vaccum created, the government quickly hired ad-hoc staff to keep the department functioning but a PANA report said the newly-hired workers have not been able to live up to expectations.
